Luxembourg: Small City, Great History

Our original plan was to visit Trier in Germany, spend the night at the Mercure Hotel Trier Porta Nigra, and continue our journey to Luxembourg the next day. Trier, a small town just 50 km away from Luxembourg, is known for its ancient monuments, with the most impressive being the Porta Nigra. However, due to lack of time, we opted for a day trip to Luxembourg.

Arrival in Luxembourg

After a three-hour drive, we finally arrived in this charming city. I must admit I had slightly higher expectations, but Luxembourg still made its mark, especially due to its rich history that can be felt in every corner. The first thing we noticed was the compact size of the city, but with an abundance of cultural and historical landmarks. Luxembourg welcomed us with its rich history that can be felt at every step.

Sightseeing

Our first step was to visit the old town, where we admired the impressive medieval walls and architecture. Strolling through narrow cobblestone streets, we discovered hidden gems such as the Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Grand Ducal Palace, which bear witness to the rich history of this city.

We didn’t miss out on the charming parks and gardens, which provided moments of peace and relaxation. And of course, during our sightseeing, we enjoyed the local cuisine, tasting traditional dishes such as “judd mat gaardebounen” and “bouneschlupp,” further uncovering the soul of this place.

Luxembourg is ideal for a one-day excursion, as most of its attractions can be explored within a single day.
